Carroll College Theatre is wrapping up its run of Firebringer, a Stone Age musical comedy from StarKid Productions, with performances through October 11 in the FLEX Theatre on the lower level of the Campus Center. The show has been running since October 2, giving Helena audiences a little over a week to catch it before it closes.

Firebringer follows two women in a prehistoric tribe who see the world very differently. Jemilla leads with caution — she's kept her people alive by respecting the rules and traditions that have worked. Her counterpart pushes in the opposite direction, willing to break those rules in pursuit of something new. The central conflict, framed as a comedy and set to music, is one audiences will recognize even if they've never thought much about the Stone Age: the tension between those who protect what exists and those who want to change it.

StarKid Productions, the Chicago-based theater company best known for the viral phenomenon of A Very Potter Musical, brings a particular kind of energy to its material — big performances, self-aware humor, and songs that are designed to stick. Carroll College Theatre productions draw a loyal crowd from both campus and the wider Helena community. This one, set in a time before fire, should leave the audience a little warmer than when they walked in. The FLEX Theatre is on the lower level of the Campus Center on the Carroll campus.
