Montana became the 25th state to join the Trump administration's 'A Home for Every Child' initiative Monday, with Gov. Greg Gianforte signing a joint proclamation alongside federal and state officials aimed at expanding the number of licensed foster homes in the state.
Gianforte was joined at the signing by Administration for Children and Families Assistant Secretary Adams, Montana Child and Family Services Division Administrator Grossberg, and Department of Public Health and Human Services Director Brereton. The initiative is a national collaboration intended to strengthen the foster care system by recruiting and supporting foster families.
Montana's child welfare system has faced persistent strain in recent years, with the state regularly carrying a higher-than-average number of children in out-of-home placements relative to its population. State officials framed Monday's signing as a step toward keeping more children in family-based settings rather than group or institutional care.
The proclamation commits Montana to working alongside federal partners through the DPHHS and the Child and Family Services Division. No specific numeric targets for new foster home recruitment were announced at the signing.
