A 13-year-old boy suffered serious injuries Sunday afternoon after falling from a ride at the Midwest Amusements Carnival operating in the north parking lot of the Butte Civic Center. Butte police responded to the scene just after 3 p.m.

Officers did not release the victim's condition as of Sunday evening, and details about which specific ride was involved had not been made public. The Midwest Amusements Carnival had been set up in the Civic Center parking lot as part of a traveling show.

Carnival ride safety falls under state oversight in Montana, and incidents of this nature typically prompt review by the Department of Labor and Industry, which inspects amusement rides operating in the state. It was not immediately clear whether state inspectors had been notified or whether the ride in question had been taken out of service following the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Center. The investigation was ongoing as of Sunday night.
