Steve Sobonya, a longtime Marysville resident known affectionately as the Unofficial Mayor of Marysville, MT, died April 26, 2026. He was 85.

Sobonya was born June 27, 1940, in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, to a coal miner father named Stephen and his mother Mary, a homemaker. His family remembered him as someone who wore his community identity simply and without ceremony — when asked what should appear in his obituary, Sobonya reportedly wanted only the bare minimum.
