Helena's annual Vigilante Parade rolled through Last Chance Gulch on Thursday, May 1, drawing large crowds and featuring 108 floats in this year's edition. The full parade has been posted online by KXLH.
The senior class took home the A.J. Roberts Cup with 56 percent student participation, edging out the junior class at 49.4 percent, the sophomore class at 45.3 percent, and the freshman class at 37.8 percent. Kevin Ward of the Helena School District Newspaper Committee released the official winners list.
The Grand Champion float was Siebrand Brothers Circus 1953, built by Isabella Hall, Breanna Connell, Elecea Duncan, Aurora Miller, Lila Miller, Taylor Northrop, Katie Ridle, and Cassidy Woods. The Montana Historical Society's Most Historically Accurate award went to The First Special Service Force, built by Melissa Klatt, Sam Klatt, and Anna Rosenkrans.
In the Best Lewis and Clark County category, first place went to the Belmont Mine float by Cash Neal, Wesson Stein, Adaric Davenport, Robert Wheeler, Luke Battiste, and Edwin Jerstad. Second place in that category went to KTVH TV, First Television Station in Helena (1958), built by Kami Pippin, Maggie Arnold, Madeleine Austria, Taylor Burton, and Annabella Ness. The American Indian category was won by Storytelling: An Ancient Tradition, featuring McKenzie Berry, Zemirah Across The Mountain, Kayla Acuna, Sophia Acuna, Hailey Brown, Eli Hacker-Antelope, Isaac Hall, Mark Jolley, Nevaeh Trujillo, and Sasha Wilson.
