Three juvenile grizzly bears have made themselves a recurring presence in and around Lincoln in recent weeks, showing up often enough that the sightings have become a regular topic in town and on the Lincoln Live Facebook group — the community's informal clearinghouse for local news and wildlife alerts.
Residents say the bears, which appear to be siblings traveling together, have moved through the area multiple times and left property damage in some cases. The pattern of repeated visits is what has people paying close attention; a bear passing through once is routine in Lincoln, but the same animals returning again and again raises the stakes for residents, livestock owners, and anyone with a chicken coop or a bird feeder.
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has been made aware of the situation and has responded to reports. Juvenile grizzlies — typically those recently separated from their mother — are considered higher-risk for human conflict because they haven't yet established a home range and are more likely to investigate new food sources. Lincoln sits in the upper Blackfoot Valley, well within the grizzly bear's expanding range in western Montana.
FWP has not announced any specific management action as of this report. Residents in the area are encouraged to secure attractants, keep livestock in protected enclosures at night, and report fresh sightings to the regional FWP office.
