The Lewis and Clark Library will host a public celebration June 16 at 5 p.m. in Anchor Park on the Walking Mall to mark the arrival of its new Mobile Library — a rebranded and modernized replacement for what Helena residents have long known as the Bookmobile. The event is described as a block party with live music, free Rocky Road scoops from Big Dipper, and tours of the new vehicle.

The library announced the vehicle is expected to arrive in May and become fully operational in June. Mobile library services are suspended in the meantime, and residents are directed to check back for updates on when outreach routes resume. Library staff say the new name better reflects the range of services the vehicle will offer, which go beyond books to include technology, programming, and direct service delivery to neighborhoods, schools, senior living facilities, and community events.

The event takes place outside the library at 120 S. Last Chance Gulch. Residents who have relied on Bookmobile stops — particularly those in outlying parts of Lewis and Clark County — should expect a gap in service until the new vehicle is operational next month.
