The stretch of Park Avenue between Park and Clerk Street is closed to traffic and will remain so through approximately October 9, City Manager Ana Lake told the Helena City Commission at its September 29 meeting. The closure is tied to a major water utility replacement project in that corridor — the kind of infrastructure work that tends to be invisible until it shuts down the street you drive every day.
Lake did not specify which water lines are being replaced or what age or condition triggered the project, but the timeline puts the work at roughly two weeks of disruption for residents and commuters who use that stretch. Drivers should expect to find alternate routes through the surrounding neighborhood grid.
The city manager also noted that prescribed burns in the hills surrounding Helena are continuing and that residents should expect to see and smell smoke through the week. The burns are a routine forest management tool this time of year, and the activity is being conducted by fire management crews — not a sign of an uncontrolled fire.
