For a town of Helena's size, the cultural calendar this week was genuinely packed — and the pattern across multiple editions suggests the fall arts season is hitting its stride all at once. Carroll College opened its Stone Age musical comedy Firebringer. The Myrna Loy brought back TAE & The Neighborly. A gothic dark comedy called The Moors landed on a local stage. Grandstreet Theatre and Lewis and Clark 4-H squared off in a music battle at the fairgrounds. The U.S. Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants are en route. And the Montana Performing Arts Consortium is bringing 17 touring artists to the Civic Center — free to the public — for the first time in decades. That last one is worth highlighting on its own: a free showcase of that scale doesn't come to Helena every year, and residents who skip it may regret it. Grandstreet Theatre was the most-mentioned arts organization in this week's trending entities at 60 references, a sign that Helena's homegrown institutions are doing real work to keep the cultural calendar full even as touring acts cycle through.
