A gothic romance with a sharp edge is coming to the Myrna Loy this fall, as a local production of "The Moors" takes the stage for a weekend run of Friday and Saturday evening performances at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees rounding out the schedule.

"The Moors" is a dark comedic send-up of the gothic romance genre — think brooding estates, suspicious strangers, and the creeping sense that someone is not who they claim to be. The Guardian described it as "deliciously dark." The play comically dismantles the conventions of the genre while also threading in a story of queer desire and a pointed critique of patriarchal social structures.

Theatergoers can expect an innocent governess, a mysterious man in the attic, and at least the possibility of a bloody demise. The show runs on the Myrna Loy's intimate stage, which suits the material — gothic atmosphere works best when the audience can't quite see the corners of the room.
