A Flood Watch issued by the National Weather Service in Great Falls remains in effect through 6 p.m. Sunday for portions of central and north central Montana, including the Gates of the Mountains area just north of Helena. The watch, which went into effect early Saturday morning, warns that flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible across the region.

The watch covers a broad swath of territory, including Cascade County below 5,000 feet, the East Glacier Park Region, Eastern and Western Glacier County, portions of Toole and Pondera counties, and the Northern High Plains. For Helena-area residents, the Gates of the Mountains designation puts the Missouri River corridor directly in the zone of concern.

Residents near the river and in low-lying areas should monitor conditions closely through the weekend. The National Weather Service in Great Falls is the primary source for updates as the watch period continues.
