It was a mixed Saturday on the softball diamond for Helena's two Class AA programs. Capital High's Bruins took care of Flathead 4-0 but dropped a lopsided contest to Glacier 8-3, while Helena High fell to both Flathead (5-2) and Glacier (16-6) in a rough day at the plate for the Bengals.

Capital's shutout of Flathead was the highlight of the day for Helena softball. The Bruins held the Braves scoreless across the full game, a performance that shows the pitching staff can be dominant when locked in. The loss to Glacier stung, but an 8-3 final against one of the stronger programs in the Western AA is not a season-defining result.

Helena High's day was harder to spin. A 5-2 loss to Flathead is manageable, but the 16-6 defeat at the hands of Glacier points to some defensive and pitching issues the Bengals will need to address. Both Helena programs remain in the thick of the Western AA race with weeks left in the regular season, and how they respond to a tough Saturday will say a lot about where they stand heading toward the postseason.
