The Lewis and Clark County Historical Society will dedicate a newly named art gallery at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Lewis and Clark County History Center on Helena Avenue. Admission to the dedication event is free.
The gallery will bear the name of Dennis McMahon, honoring a figure whose connection to Helena's arts and history community is being formally recognized through the naming. The History Center sits in Helena's historic Steamboat Block, at 618 Helena Avenue — one of the city's older commercial buildings and a fitting home for a collection tied to the region's past.
The Lewis and Clark County Historical Society has long served as the keeper of the valley's documented history, from the gold rush days of Last Chance Gulch through the territorial and statehood eras. A dedicated gallery space within the History Center adds a permanent visual arts dimension to what the institution offers residents and visitors.
The June 6 dedication is open to the public at no charge. The History Center's regular hours and programming information are available through the Historical Society.
