Two separate crashes hit Interstate 15 on Friday, blocking lanes in both directions and slowing travel along one of the primary corridors connecting Helena to the rest of the state.
Northbound I-15 at milepost 144 — roughly in the Canyon Ferry Road corridor south of Helena — had its left lane blocked, with travelers directed to use the right lane. The blockage was listed as ongoing with no clear timeline for reopening at the time of the report.
A second crash struck I-15 southbound near milepost 186, north of Helena in the area approaching Wolf Creek Canyon, also with the left lane blocked. Motorists were again directed to the right lane.
Montana Department of Transportation advises drivers to check 511.mt.gov for real-time road conditions before heading out on I-15, particularly through the canyon stretches where there's little room to maneuver around a scene.
