Both Helena high school varsity softball programs came home from away conference games on Wednesday, May 14, without wins. Helena High fell to Butte 8-1, and Capital High lost to Big Sky of Missoula 12-5.
The Bengals' loss at Butte was a lopsided one, with Helena managing just a single run against the Bulldogs. Capital's road trip to face the Big Sky Eagles ended similarly, with the Bruins trailing by seven runs in a 12-5 final.
Conference standings were not included in the available game reports, but back-to-back losses for both city programs in the same day is a rough mid-May stretch heading into the later portion of the regular season.
