The National Weather Service office in Great Falls issued a Special Weather Statement before dawn on Sunday, October 25, warning of patchy dense fog that had developed across the Helena area and several surrounding communities.
Visibility dropped below a half mile in some locations, including areas around Helena, Lincoln, Craig, and Augusta. The NWS noted that conditions could change rapidly and urged drivers heading out early that morning to reduce speeds and stay alert for sudden drops in visibility.
The statement served as a precursor to the broader Dense Fog Advisory the agency would issue the following morning for an even wider swath of southwest Montana. For Helena residents, the back-to-back fog events marked a stretch of unsettled early-morning conditions heading into the last week of October.
