The U.S. Forest Service has issued a regional order setting limits on how long visitors can occupy a single camping location — or accumulate time across multiple locations — within a calendar year on Forest Service lands in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Idaho. The order also includes restrictions related to target shooting and prohibits the use of pallets. Forest Order #R1-2025-01 took effect August 1, 2025. Campers and recreational users in the Helena National Forest area should review the order before heading out this season.
