Helena residents who've been hauling used cooking oil with nowhere to take it now have an option: City Manager Lake announced at the September 8 commission meeting that the city's transfer station has begun accepting cooking oil as part of an expanded list of accepted materials. The change is one of several operational updates Lake shared during his manager's report.

The transfer station has also moved its recycling containers to the facility's entrance, a practical shift that lets residents drop off recyclables without having to drive into the station itself. For anyone who's made a quick recycling run and gotten stuck behind a line of vehicles, the new layout should make the errand faster. A paint exchange event is also scheduled for later in September, though a specific date was not announced at the meeting.

Lake also noted the city is in the middle of a transition on another operational front, though details on that process were not fully available from the meeting record. Residents with questions about accepted materials at the transfer station can contact the city directly. The cooking oil acceptance and recycling container relocation are both in effect now.
