Helena-area kids from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to Memorial Park on Saturday, September 26, for the Survive or Thrive Scouting Challenge — a free, no-experience-necessary outdoor skills event designed to give youth a taste of what scouting looks like in practice.

The event asks nothing of participants beyond showing up ready to move. No scouting membership, no gear, no prior knowledge required. Stations are set up to test and teach skills across a range of activities, and organizers are billing it as an opportunity for kids to discover what they're capable of in an outdoor setting.

The challenge is being offered at no cost, which removes one of the more common barriers to youth participation in scouting programs. Memorial Park's open layout makes it a natural fit for the kind of multi-station format the event uses. Families interested in attending don't need to register in advance — the invitation is open to all area youth.
