University of Montana running back Eli Gillman put together one of the most dominant individual performances in Grizzly football history Saturday night, breaking UM's single-game rushing record with 275 yards and four touchdowns as the No. 5-ranked Grizzlies dismantled No. 10 UC Davis 62-22 in Davis, California.
The blowout came in one of the most anticipated Big Sky Conference matchups of the season, a meeting of two top-ten FCS programs. Montana turned it into a statement game. Gillman's 275 rushing yards surpassed the previous program record and his four touchdowns on the ground gave the Grizzlies an offense that UC Davis had no answer for across four quarters.
The 40-point margin of victory was the Grizzlies' most complete performance of the season by their own account. Montana improved to a position of strength in the Big Sky standings, and Gillman's night will be a reference point in UM record books for years. The Grizzlies return home to Washington-Grizzly Stadium for their next contest.
