Commissioner Gustafson used the commissioner communications portion of the September 29 City Commission meeting to flag two issues she said had been left unresolved for Helena residents trying to follow city business online.
The first involved the DeFord project. Gustafson said the city manager had provided an update on the project at a recent administrative meeting, but that information had not made its way to the city's public-facing website. She asked that it be posted under either the parks page or the streets and trails tab so constituents could find it without having to attend internal meetings or file records requests.
Gustafson's second request was for a status update on open lands planning — a process that touches on how Helena manages its parks, trails, and undeveloped public land. Neither request required a commission vote, but both put city staff on notice that at least one commissioner is watching whether public information keeps pace with internal decisions. No timeline for posting the DeFord materials was stated at the meeting.
