Carroll College Theatre is staging Firebringer, a Stone Age musical comedy from the ensemble StarKid Productions, with performances running October 2 through 11 in the FLEX Theatre on the lower level of the Carroll College Campus Center.
The show follows two women whose worldviews put them on a collision course in prehistoric times. Jemilla leads her tribe through tradition and caution — the rules that have kept her people alive. Her counterpart takes a harder look at the status quo and pushes toward something new. The central conflict, played for laughs and set to a full musical score, is what StarKid has built a national following around: big ideas, low-budget production values embraced rather than hidden, and a lot of heart.
StarKid Productions, which got its start at the University of Michigan and found a wide audience through YouTube, has become a popular choice for college theatre programs. Firebringer was originally produced by the company in 2016 and has since become one of its more frequently staged works. Carroll's production marks a rare chance for Helena audiences to see it performed live.
Ticket information was not included in the event listing. The FLEX Theatre is an intimate black-box-style space, so seating is limited. Performances run through Saturday, October 11.
