The crash occurred between 8:40 and 9 p.m. near mile marker 332, according to a social media post from the patrol.
Investigators said the vehicle that may have been involved — possibly a dark-colored pickup — did not remain at the scene. The patrol has not released the name of the person killed, and no arrests had been announced as of the initial report. The investigation is ongoing.
Mile marker 332 on westbound I-90 sits on the stretch between Livingston and the interchange near the Yellowstone River, a segment that Helena-area residents frequently travel when heading to Billings or through the Yellowstone corridor.
