Between the Myrna Loy, Grandstreet Theatre, Montana Book Company, and Last Chance Gulch, Helena's arts and culture scene generated more stories this week than any other single beat — and the variety is striking. The Walking Mall hosted a World Cup Fan Fest. The Kindness Project community dance showcase filled the Myrna Loy. A New England composer is booked for July. Montana Book Company has back-to-back author signings and a launch party for Helena novelist Sally Blakely's second book. And then there's SIX — the Tudor queens pop musical appeared in no fewer than three separate stories this week, covering what appear to be at least two distinct local productions. Grandstreet Theatre was among the week's most-mentioned organizations at 21 references, a sign of how central it's become to what Helena does with itself culturally. The pattern here isn't just busy calendars — it's a community that increasingly has enough going on that residents can be selective about where they spend a Friday night. That's a different Helena than it was a decade ago, and it's worth noticing.
